One / Zero

dance
17—18.12.2011

After Birdwatching, the choreographer Benjamin Vandewalle and artist Erki De Vries again joined forces for a new creation. In One/Zero they again play on and upset the foundations of our perception. This time they focus on the way we experience time and movement. This choreography also unavoidably draws the audience experience into the performance.

Like a film, One/Zero strictly speaking consists of still images. The dancers only change position in the dark interval between two flashes of light. But to the viewer’s eye this sequence of stills forms a movement or story. Inspired by insights drawn from neuropsychology, zen meditation, physics and philosophy, Vandewalle and De Vries make a highly unusual montage of two bodies in a space.
