Squint

dance
performance
12.12.2010

What does it mean to "comply with" or “resist” our memory? Are we not obeying our memory, even when we are fighting against it? In “Squint” music and dance meet up in a way that irritates. In quick succession, we are presented with one dance solo after another; the performers enter and leave the stage abruptly, dance and observe. The endings are sudden, there are no smooth transitions. What we see and experience could be connected with each other or not, yet it does seem to make sense. Significances and emotions are awoken and allowed to disappear away again into nothing. Norberto Llopis Segarra has allowed the moment of attrition, of uncertainty and of loss to be felt with immediacy. He shows that the passing of time has relevance for significance, the length and intensity of the experience, the possibilities of generating new meaning and of throwing meaning over board.
