La Pellegrina

music
15.05.2007

Music for the marriage feast of Ferdinando I de Medicis and Christine de Lorraine

Girolamo Bargagli wrote his play La Pellegrina in 1579, but it was only staged for the first time in May 1589, in Siena, three years after his death. For the wedding celebrations of Ferdinando I de Medicis and Christine de Lorraine, in Florence in 1589, six composers wrote interludes to be performed between the various scenes of the play. The Capriccio Stravagante Renaissance Orchestra and the Collegium Vocale bring this music back to life in the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels. The six interludes represent mythological stories referring to the newly married couple.
