Iraq, war on Culture
A discussion on Iraq on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the
invasion. Prof. Christopher Parker from
the Middle East and North Africa research group at Ghent University will
be speaking with Dirk Adriaensens of the BRussells Tribunal and the
Iraqi novelist Ali Bader. The chairman is Lieven De Cauter. He will also give an introduction.
The evening starts with a geopolitical analysis of eight years of occupation. This is followed by a focus on the appalling situation suffered by Iraqi academics (based on the results of an international seminar on this topic in Ghent in early March). And lastly, the pursuit of academics is compared with the situation of artists in Iraq and in the diaspora.
