Moussem Cities : Teheran
The annual Moussem Cities festival each year focuses on a different metropolis from the Middle East and North Africa. Artists from the region and the diaspora offer a look at their city and their work. After editions around Beirut, Casablanca, Damascus, Algiers and Dakar, this time the spotlight is on Tehran.
With more than ten million inhabitants, the metropolis Tehran is the cultural and commercial heart of Iran. Over the centuries, the city, with its rich history and immense cultural heritage, had a great influence on the world. Today, civil rights, artistic freedom and artist mobility are under great pressure, as recent protests show.
Even now, the city remains a dynamic centre for contemporary art: with its world-renowned filmmakers and rich traditions in music, theatre and literature, Tehran remains a strong and resilient breeding ground for artistic creation.
Kaaitheater is a regular partner of Moussem Cities for the performing arts part of the festival. Together, we present Time Paranoia by Masoumeh Jalalieh, The Possible by Naghmeh Manavi, Plus-Minus Seven by Kimia Khatibzadeh, Immemorial by Azade Shahmiri and May I Show You? by Ehsan Shayanfard.
