Wayqeycuna

theatre
27—28.03.2026

Andean women weave their quipus, textile artifacts made of ropes and knots, as a way of remembering. Like them, Argentinian artist Tiziano Cruz retraces his steps back to his childhood, seeking to reconnect with his community.

Based on archival research, Cruz’s work proposes a reflection on how racial hierarchies and power structures function in a world in which neoliberalism violently erases our cultural, vital, and collective traces.

Wayqeycuna is the final work in the trilogy Tres Maneras de Cantarle a una Montaña (Three Ways to Sing to a Mountain). In it, the artist expresses his childhood memories of the interior of northern Argentina through a series of poetic gestures, in political manifestos about the art market and class privilege.

• Tiziano Cruz is an interdisciplinary artist whose work is in essence a combination of visual and theatrical language, performance, and artistic intervention in public space. Tiziano has received grants from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes and the Instituto Nacional del Teatro ARG. He was the winner of the Bienal de Arte Joven 2019 and the ANTI Prize, Finland, in 2023; and in 2024 he won The ZKB Audience Prize 2024 at the Zürcher Theatre Spektakel in Zurich. Tiziano previously performed in Brussels with Soliloquio. You can also read his essay Indigenismo: un tema urgente (Indigenism: an urgent theme) here
