Vrouwen uit de Andes weven hun ‘quipus’, textielartefacten gemaakt uit touwen en knopen, als een manier van herinneren. Net als hen neemt de Argentijnse kunstenaar Tiziano Cruz het pad richting zijn kindertijd, om zo de verbinding met zijn gemeenschap terug te vinden.  

Op basis van archiefonderzoek, stelt Cruz’ werk een reflectie voor over hoe raciale hiërarchieën en machtsstructuren functioneren in een wereld waarin neoliberalisme gewelddadig onze culturele, vitale en collectieve sporen uitwist.  

Wayqeycuna vormt het laatste werk in de trilogie Tres Maneras de Cantarle a una Montaña. Daarin verwoordt de kunstenaar door middel van een reeks poëtische gebaren de herinneringen aan zijn kindertijd aan het binnenland van Noord-Argentinië, in politieke manifesten over de kunstmarkt en klasseprivilege.  

 

• Tiziano Cruz is een interdisciplinaire kunstenaar wiens werk in wezen een combinatie is van beeldende en theatrale taal, performance en artistieke interventie in de openbare ruimte. Tiziano heeft een beurs ontvangen van het Fondo Nacional de las Artes en het Instituto Nacional del Teatro ARG. Hij was winnaar van de Bienal de Arte Joven 2019 en winnaar van de ANTI-prijs, Finland, 2023; en in 2024 wint hij “The ZKB Audience Prize 2024” op het Zürcher Theatre Spektakel - Zwitserland.
