Celestial Sorrow

dance
performance
24—27.06.2020

Please note: this show has been cancelled to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

‘For many years, I’ve been thinking about ghosts as unfinished business, and the way in which unresolved conflicts affect both our presence and our movements. Our bodies are constantly shuttling between objects, sounds, lights, voices and unprocessed events from the past. This might awaken a dormant presence, whether we like it or not.’  – Meg Stuart

Celestial Sorrow is Meg Stuart’s first collaboration with the Indonesian visual artist Jompet Kuswidananto. Based in collective memories and fictitious traumas, the duo create a world of light and movement that is inhabited by three performers and two musicians. Together the group embarks on a voyage of artistic discovery across imaginary and invisible spaces, searching for the voices that vivify them. Celestial Sorrow premiered at the Kaaistudios in 2018 and is moving to the main stage of Kaaitheater for this reprise.
