Operville
As if he himself becomes the music
Anyone who has seen Ivo Dimchev’s Concerto knows how his idiosyncratic interpretation of a live concert sounds. It is a radical improvisation in which he uses his muscular body and thin falsetto voice as an instrument. ‘I'm interested in the physical strength of the music and the melodies of my muscles,’ says Dimchev. His voice and vocalisation are unique. One only has to think of the beginning of the solo performance Lili Händel, where, in a beautiful countertenor voice, he improvises to a slowed-down recording of Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole. Dimchev the singer moves smoothly from one mood to the next, from rock star to prima donna. Through constantly playing with different personalities, it is as if he himself becomes the music. Just as in his performance, singing is a ‘borderline event’ where anything is possible.
In Operville he develops his own version of the concept of opera. Expect vocal improvisation based on classical music, with several vocalists and performers on stage.
Dimchev traditionally concludes Performatik with an unpredictable performance.
