home & away (movie)
Modern-day nomads
People with no fixed abode, and modern-day nomads. What they have in common is that they are constantly on the move and without a home. Together with a mixed group of expats, homeless people and refugees, the artist Ann Van de Vyvere (Irma Firma) looked for the meaning of privacy and intimacy – the foundations of the home. Because, wherever a person lives, be it in a terraced house or under a bridge, he always gathers around him a number of valuable objects to create a sense of home.
The home & away exhibition was first put together at the Jubilee Park Museum in April 2010. A group of the participants are now getting together again to exhibit their most valuable objects at the Kaaitheater. They themselves guide the public around the exhibition. During this period a documentary film showing the exhibitors’ stories will also premiere, and Irma Firma will be organising several home & away workshops.
home & away is part of the broader Karavaan socio-artistic project run by Globe Aroma, a socio-artistic organisation that stimulates encounters in the city. Its aim is to bring about intercultural dialogue by means of art and culture.
