De roots van hiphop

De Canadees-Brusselse choreografe Ula Sickle maakt twee solo’s voor en met jonge dansers uit Kinshasa, Dinozord en Jolie Ngemi.

Solid Gold, gedanst door Dinozord, put uit diens roots als hiphopdanser en mengt uiteenlopende stijlen: van traditionele Afrikaanse dans, over Broadway-entertainment uit vervlogen tijden tot de nieuwste dansstijlen, gesampled van MTV en het internet. De tweede solo, Jolie, blijft in het heden maar kijkt tegelijk vooruit. De inspiratie kwam hier van populaire dans, Congolese muziekvideo’s en nachtclubacts. 
Muzikant Yann Leguay creëert een live sound track, waarbij hij gebruik maakt van de geluiden die de dansers maken, hun stemmen, hun voetstappen en hun ademhaling.

• Solid Gold en Jolie refereren ook aan de ontginning van Congo’s natuurlijke rijkdommen en aan zijn wellicht belangrijkste maar vaak genegeerde rijkdom: de energie en de creativiteit van de Congolese jeugd.
