Salon: From Stage to Gallery/Gallery to Stage

Enjoy compelling conversations with performing artists, curators and academics in a relaxed atmosphere. More names will be added to the salons, keep an eye on the website!

This salon explores cross disciplinary practices that draw upon conventions of the visual and the performing arts with Ula Sickle, Alexis Blake, and Noé Soulier. Moderated by Zoë Gray.


• Ula Sickle is a choreographer and performer based in Brussels. From a background in contemporary dance, she works across disciplines and in collaboration with artists in other domains such as the visual arts, contemporary music or architecture. She studied in Toronto and Paris, before attending PARTS. In 2018 she had a residency at WIELS, and she is regularly featured in the Kaaitheater programme.

• Alexis Blake has a multidisciplinary practice that coalesces visual art and performance through methods of translation such as choreography, sculpture, video, and/or text. In 2007, she received an MA in Fine Art from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Her work has been presented at numerous locations, such as the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), ExtraCity (Antwerp), Fondazione Antonio Ratti (Como) and La Triennale di Milano XXI.

• Born in Paris in 1987, Noé Soulier studied at the National Ballet School of Canada and PARTS in Brussels. He received a master’s degree in philosophy at La Sorbonne University. Soulier’s work explores choreography and dance in different settings. Noé Soulier is associated artist at the CN D Centre national de la danse in Pantin since 2014 and associated artist at CDCN Toulouse / Occitanie from 2016 to 2018.

Zoë Gray is senior curator at WIELS in Brussels since 2015. She was previously the artistic director of the Rennes Biennale in 2014, titled PLAYTIME and worked for two years in Arles for the LUMA Foundation (2012-2014). From 2006 to 2012, Gray was curator at Witte de With in Rotterdam and she was also active aa a freelance curator.
