Student Works 2

De laatstejaarsstudenten van de Brusselse dansschool P.A.R.T.S. – die dit academiejaar haar tiende verjaardag vierde – presenteren hun afstudeerprojecten in de Beursschouwburg en in de Kaaitheaterstudio’s.

In de Kaaitheaterstudio’s brengen zij twee programma’s, die telkens twee avonden worden gespeeld. Elk programma bestaat uit eigen werk en creaties van gastchoreografen. Een gevarieerde avond, waarin de verschillende definities van dans worden afgetast en de choreografen van de toekomst aan de publieke deur komen kloppen.

(non)pouvoir - afstudeerproject

“Mournfull that day.

"Mesdames, Monsieurs, le spectacle. La Critique fait entrer l'interprète."
Dès que le spectacle commence tout ce qui est donné au public est donné au jugement :
Ce que la lumière des projecteurs nous montre, mais aussi les gestes incontrollés que l'on cherche à dissimuler.
"Interprète, avez-vous quelque chose a rajouter pour votre defence?"
En fait, toute critique juge la capacité et l'incapacité que le performer a à contrôler ce même jugement...
"L'affaire est mise en délibérée."

Lateral pass - passed on - repertoire

In this repertory project, the students learned basic phrase material from Trisha Brown’s Lateral pass (1985), which was then transformed  and rearranged, and finally set to a different music, improvised live.

ELEANOR! - persoonlijk werk

ELEANOR! (2004) is a critical portrait of the frenetic success drive that consumes a self-producing artist to the point where the survival-based need to promote oneself overrides artistic integrity. In this self-economization, the artist takes on several identities and vocations in order to serve an increasingly obscured desire to create. Through a "gently schizophrenic" web of interrelated activities that support and feed off of each other, the art, the artist, and the promotion fade into one.

Love. Death. My life with Tin-Yu. Oh wait, I am you. - afstudeerproject

This (intensely fake) piece (that pretends to be) about real life is an autobiographical drama (made without a single thought towards dramaturgy).  The performers portray (underdeveloped) characters in a (confusing and unstructured) storyline that (goes nowhere as it) keeps unfolding.  Funny and (not so) physical, 'My (awful) life with Ting-Yu' will keep you (unsure of why you are) laughing and wondering (if you should get up and leave).
