Explore your senses
Elastic Habitat is an immersive installation – you could call it a kind of playground – that invites you to explore, touch, and even carry textile sculptures. You literally inhabit an imaginary body and thus have the time to explore your own identity in an uninhibited, sensory, intuitive way.
How can a mental choreography give you a sense of movement? In Anatomie, Anne Juren creates a movement score for entrails and bodily functions. While you lie on a mat with your eyes closed, she uses her voice to guide you around your body and your mind.
Continuous interaction between the performers and audience is rooted in an implicit understanding. Along with your fellow audience members, you delineate the stage in an ellipsis: this is a dance of touch. Join the performers in this adventure to discover what it means to experience tactility!
Benoît Lachambre again asks you to listen to your senses and genuinely to experience the consciousness of your body. Borders between dance and movement gradually blur when a glance, a movement, or the touch of someone in the audience continues to resonate in the choreography.
In his latest performance, Benjamin Vandewalle is again accompanying you into the city. He takes the lead in a series of purposeful actions: some are banal, while others are completely unconventional. You leave as a group of individuals and gradually transform into one collective body.
In Buddhist monasteries, people learn through meditation to look at life from the perspective of their own mortality. Robert Steijn has turned this meditative practice into a ritual. Together, you will walk around the city, as though you were taking this walk for the last time.
In the whirlwind of work, relationships, deadlines and discussions, we sometimes get distracted from the most important things in life: feeling alive and being conscious of our entire being and everything around you. The Monastery is an experimental spiritual urban community that aims to do exactly that: by performing daily rituals and making every action an intense experience.
For the second time this season, The Monastery is coming to the Kaaistudios with A-LIFE, a ritual day that is patterned to the rhythm of the seasons. This time, the urban monks guide you through the transition from autumn to winter.
The Monastery is returning to the Kaaistudios – which has become a familiar environment – for a special, two-day event. This time, A-LIFE combines the celebration of spring with the queerness of practice during an experimental monastic happening for women, men, and those who have left this binary far behind. Expect a monastic day in silence – with the occasional rave – in which you deconstruct and deepen the aesthetics of the monk.
The Monastery is coming to the Kaaistudios for the fourth time, to close the RE:RITE season with a final day of rituals. You can join this experimental spiritual urban community for one ritual or for the whole day, to become conscious of your entire being and of everything going on around you. The rituals during this closing event are focused on ‘Buying Time’: how can we redefine our approach to time and our perception of public space.
