Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and pianist Alain Franco are joining forces again. Their 2008 production Zeitung – an exploration of the essential intersection of music and dance – forms the fascinating premise for a new creation, with Louis Nam Le Van Ho as a third choreographer at the wheel.

The young choreographer and dancer makes his own dance language collide with De Keersmaeker’s. Through the bodies of eight new, young dancers and a grand piano – played live onstage by Alain Franco – they literally transpose the dance material and musical choices of ten years ago to the present.

The evolution and the harmony of musical history is again the leitmotif in Zeitigung: Bach, Schönberg, Brahms, and Anton Webern all come together in the geometrical principles and improvisations in the choreography.

De Muziekboom stimulates young children to develop their musical talents. In this workshop, they will use their own body as though it were an instrument. Then they can try out real musical instruments. Based on an existing score, they can make their own composition, which they can take home at the end to keep making music!

This exceptionally vital production was one of the highlights of the last season, and was promptly selected for the TheaterFestival. Join the dancers, and abandon yourself once again to Coltrane’s spiritual ode to divine love!

Achterland (1990) is a pivotal production in Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s oeuvre. It was the first time that the choreographer created dance material specifically for men and that she gave musicians a central role on the stage. To the tones of Györgi Ligeti and Eugène Ysaÿe, the minimalism and femininity of her earlier work made room for an ambiguous no man’s land that blurred boundaries and signs. A reprisal to look forward to!
