Festival

Experiencing dance in new ways

Persons with a visual impairment can enjoy a dance production just as much as anyone else. You can feel the presence of the audience around you, hear the footsteps of the dancers on the stage, feel wafts of air on your face, and be carried along by the swelling music.

The Kaaitheater aims to go one step further. We invite you to explore the stage and props beforehand in a unique touch tour. Afterwards, you can experience an extra layer of the performance through headphones: a dance-professional will describe the movements and actions of the dancers live.

Audio description has been used for some time in theatre and film, but the technique is still an untapped potential in dance productions. Along with partners in London, Paris, and Vienna, we will develop and support this new technique. Austrian choreographer Simon Mayer will get the ball rolling.
