Hugs & Handshakes
Hugs & Handshakes is an acrobatic choreography inspired by everyday encounters. How can hugs, a simple pat on the shoulder, or a firm handshake be transformed into spectacular acrobatics? Everyday touches serve as the starting point for an acrobatic choreography, where small gestures unfold into grand movements. And the audience gets to join in. Would you like a hug or rather a handshake? The boundaries between performers and audience gradually blur. Spontaneous duets emerge. Or is everything not quite as it seems?
• THERE THERE Company has been the company of partner acrobats and circus makers Hanna Mampuys and Toon Van Gramberen since 2016, and has grown over the years into a mainstay with a distinctive presence in the Flemish circus and performing arts scene. In their work, Hanna and Toon actively seek to give meaning to the world around them. Their physical language stems from their circus practice of hand-to-hand acrobatics, where collaborating bodies form the starting point. In their performances, the performer takes centre stage in all their vulnerability and humanity.
