Zuidpool
ALKIBIADES
Are we truly aware of the vulnerability of our democracies? Can a democracy still function if we no longer trust one another?
In an extensive adaptation of Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer’s monumental novel, Zuidpool presents the story of Alkibiades. Leading actress Sofie Decleir embodies Greece’s most controversial politician, torn between his boundless self-love and the greater good of his people.
At the same time, he confronts us with our own blind spots. Are we, the people, capable of knowing what is best for the people? And how strongly do we still value the truth when plausibilities become more desirable?
A poignant story in a world where the democratic agreement we have entered into with one another threatens to shatter at any moment. A glimpse into a system that has reached its limits, but for which no better alternative seems to exist.
