Rush

dance
27—28.03.2024

If you ever have seen the work of choreographer Mette Ingvartsen, you might also have come across Manon Santkin, a performer who graduated from P.A.R.T.S. together with Mette and, over the course of the past two decades, took part in ten of her creations.

Rush is a solo by Mette for Manon. It is a tribute to the act of performing, and a celebration of their intense and long-lasting collaboration. Together, they revisit materials and scores from past performances, while reshaping them through storytelling and narration. Out of this effort to ‘rewild’ their shard ecosystem, their actual artistic practice, emerges a surprising chronology, a rush of energy that reflects upon the pleasures of performing.

'Each process had its own universe, with its own horizon of concepts, a specific core of physical and expressive possibilities, that we would build the pieces around. The creations I’ve made together with Mette Ingvartsen all have something very concrete about them, anchored in the here & now, but they also have a strong line of fiction running through them. It has always been as much about what we do and what we imagine while performing. Like creating a continuum between fiction, imagination, and reality. (…) Looking back and venturing as a performer through what we have made in the past 20 years is like adding wormholes into this reality-fiction continuum. Or like creating passages between past and present, materiality and fiction, utopia and realisation.’ – Manon Santkin

Mette Ingvartsen (she/her) is a Danish choreographer and dancer who graduated from PARTS in 2004. Her work is characterised by being hybrid and concerned with expanding choreographic practices by combining dance and movement with other fields, such as the visual arts, technology, language and theory. In 2003, Ingvartsen founded her own company and since then her work has been shown across Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and Asia. Between 2012 and 2016, she was artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater in Brussels.
