Kiss The One We Are

dance
29.02—01.03.2024

Daniel Linehan invites eight dancers of different generations and asks them: “Why do you choose to dance? What motivates you to continue? When does dance start, and when does it end?”

Dance is a universal language. It accompanies us in our acts of celebration, but also in our ways of finding peace or comfort. In Kiss The One We Are, the dancers explore the depths of their physical memory, searching for movements and images that reflect the reasons that drive them to dance.

In 2019 Linehan created the solo performance Body of Work in which he exposed his own history of dancing. Revisiting some of the same questions that he asked himself, he gives the dancers of Kiss The One We Are  the space to reflect on what it is to experience life and the surrounding world through the lens of dance. In what ways can dance connect us with one another and with the other dances that take place all around us: in the play of animals, in the movement of plants, in the rhythm of an ocean, in the movements of atomic particles continually vibrating and interacting?

• Daniel Linehan studied dance in Seattle and at PARTS in Brussels. His work explores interactions between dance and non-dance, unusual combinations and contradictions between text, movement, image, music and rhythm. Pretty much all his work has been shown at Kaaitheater, including Un Sacre du Printemps, Flood, and in recent years, the diptych Listen Here: This Cavern and Listen Here: Theses Woods
