Conversations #1: on 'Retour à Reims' and the Class System

talk
24.09.2018

→ In this series of evening discussions, leading authors, intellectuals and philosophers debate the concept of authenticity.

Didier Eribon’s Return to Reims combines autobiographical narrative and powerful sociological analysis. After the death of his father, the author returned to the city of his birth, Reims, where he rediscovered the French working-class world that he has left behind thirty years earlier. By exploring his own family history, he analyses how the class system influenced and continues to influence their lives.

• Didier Eribon is a French sociologist and philosopher. He wrote a biography about Michel Foucault, and his ideas about gender, education, and social issues are widely quoted and respected.
