Zaoum

dance
17—18.02.2017

Enjoy and/or decipher

Zaoum is the second part of the Flemish-Swiss choreographer Cindy Van Acker’s new cycle, which was inspired by Luigi Nono’s Quando Stanno Morendo. This piece of music draws on seven poems by figures such as the Russian Futurist Velimir Khlebnikov, who chose mathematics as a basis from which to invent poetic forms. The ‘Zaoum’ is one such poetic form, in which sound takes precedence over meaning. This is abstract dance to enjoy and/or decipher!

• Cindy Van Acker has danced at Royal Ballet Flanders and at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva. During the nineties, she followed her own pathway in contemporary dance. In 2005, Romeo Castellucci – with whom she collaborates regularly – invited her to the Venice Biennale. In 2014, she created Anechoic with 53 P.A.R.T.S. dancers on Ostend beach (Dansand!). Her work has also been programmed at the Avignon Festival, amongst others. At Kaaitheater, she has previously presented Nixe + Obtus, Diffraction, Drift and Ion.
