All Ears

Self-sufficiency

For All Ears, the stage resembles an improvised laboratory. Sounds are gathered, recorded and played back, providing a unique soundtrack for what comes next. Kate McIntosh tells us about human and animal behaviour, about crowd control and linguistics; and tells jokes about politics and group dynamics, maps of birds and traffic jams.

In the silence between the recorded sounds, she goes in search of the core questions: who are we when we are alone, how are we together, what does it take to change a culture, and what we could be missing in the push for individual self-sufficiency? All Ears is a sharp, playful performance that balances on the thin line between experiment and entertainment.

• In her work, Kate McIntosh transcends the boundaries of performance, theatre, video and installation. In previous performances like All NaturalDARK MATTER and Untried Untested, she also threw science, variety, stand up, philosophical questions and eclectic tales into the mix. From 2017, she will be artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater.

‘Finally Kate McIntosh holds up a gigantic microphone into the silence after the storm. It's in this beautiful moment of 'nothingness' that the togetherness of everyone in the space becomes apparent.’  – Melanie Suchy, WAZ
