Terug naar Afrika
DOO is het resultaat van Miguel Pereira’s hernieuwde kennismaking met Afrika. Na 31 jaar afwezigheid keerde de danser en performer terug naar zijn geboorteland Mozambique, waar hij enkel zijn kindertijd doorbracht. Zijn culturele identiteit, zo zegt hij zelf, kreeg pas vorm in Portugal en Europa. In DOO confronteert hij de Europese identiteit met die van de Afrikaanse ‘ander’ en de jaren ’70 (waarin o.m. de Anjerrevolutie plaatsvond) met het begin van de 21ste eeuw. Samen met danser Bernardo Fernando (PAK) en dj Jari Marjamäki brengt hij een intense performance die tekst, puur fysieke dans en live gemixte muziek verbindt.
• Miguel Pereira (1963) is een enfant terrible van de Portugese dans. Hij werkte met o.m. Jérôme Bel, Vera Mantero en Francisco Camacho. Tijdens Spoken World ’08 toonde hij in de Kaaistudio’s de solo Miguel meets Karima, zijn relaas over een geplande samenwerking met de Egyptische choreografe Karima Mansour, die omwille van culturele en persoonlijke verschillen nooit tot stand kwam.
