VIDEO: Srećko Horvat

Subversion? From the anarchism of banks to the anarchist banker

Video
08.02.17

The young Croatian philosopher, author and political activist Srećko Horvat is undoubtedly one of the leading voices of his generation. This talk starts from Fernando Pessoa’s novel The Anarchist Banker and then explores models and practices to change a political and economic system from within. In the time of representative democracy which can bring Trump to power and referendums which lead to Brexit, what is the role of radical politics? In an era in which financial capitalism rules the whole planet and even Mars, is there any possibility to get out of it?

Horvat is one of the founders of the now legendary Subversive Festival, which shamelessly took money even from corporations to bring grassroots movements and activists, former RAF terrorists or the future Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras to Zagreb. This is the place where he met Yanis Varoufakis, with whom he co-founded DiEM25 in 2016. Beside this experience, the talk will provide a unique theoretical insight into possible subversions in a time which is getting darker day by day.
