Kaaitheater goes ramadan friendly!
From Thursday, March 23rd 2023, Muslims around the world will once again take part in Ramadan, their sacred month of fasting. In the cultural sector, this means that audiences, artists and cultural workers who are of Muslim background will continue to work and attend performances throughout this period.
Under the motto How To Be Many? Kaaitheater aims to make room for a wide range of visitors, artists, stories and perspectives. For example, we offer a more accessible pricing policy with Pay What You Can or, with It's EXTRA, we allow artists to build a program around their show. With the Ramadan Friendly label, we try to make the performance evenings during the month of Ramadan more accessible for Muslim people. But we are not carrying this action out alone. Mediators from about ten other cultural organizations, as well as LEVL and RAB/BKO, are involved in this project.
In recent years, Ramadan has remained completely invisible in the cultural field. It is time for this to change. With Ramadan Friendly, we want to create a city-wide collective dynamic, supported by as many organizations as possible. On ramadanfriendly.com, we provide a toolbox with suggestions and actions. In this way, we want to facilitate the cultural experience of all Brussels residents, regardless of their religion.
Ramadan Friendly is a project of Kaaitheater, in collaboration with Atelier 210, Bâtard Festival, Beursschouwburg, BRONKS, Decoratelier, les Halles de Schaerbeek, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, La Bellone, Le 140, LEVL, MetX, RAB/BKO, There is Nothing Wrong With People, YouYou group, Zinnema ...
