CRUMBLING DOWN
Miet Warlop presents a succession of theatrical vignettes, consisting of physical actions, sculptural props and scenic interventions that artfully cancel each other out on stage. Each scene reveals the immaterial processes that go into the work – using a plastic language. It turns them into a sculptural live event creating a temporary fantasy that begins to crumble in the moment of its completion.
Miet Warlop (°1978) is a Belgian visual artist born in Torhout, living and working between Ghent, Berlin and Brussels. While living in Berlin for three years, she concentrated on her visual work in preparation for the piece Mystery Magnet. It earned her the prestigious Theatertreffen Stückemarkt prize at the Berliner Festspiele for new forms of theatre, and played more than 100 times worldwide.
Over the last years, Miet explored different possibilities with her Nervous Pictures and performances, both in a theatre as visual arts context. In 2014 Miet created Dragging the Bone, a solo performance on a sculpted planet. While touring the piece, she opened her very first solo exhibition Crumbling Down the Circle of my Iconoclasm at KIOSK gallery (Ghent).
Miet started 2017 at KW Berlin, where she presented more of her Nervous Pictures. You can witness one of these – TRIPTYCH – during the closing of Performatik17. Moreover, she stages a ride into the Yves Klein-exhibition at Bozar (Brussels), also in the context of the festival.
