Alle woorden die ik nog niet kende
Ahilan Ratnamohan is a language enthusiast and usually busy learning at least two languages at the same time. Although he was constantly surrounded by Dutch, he did not go near it for a long time. Between 2010 and 2018 – his first years in Belgium – he collected a list of words unknown to him. In Alle woorden die ik nog niet kende Ahilan tries to use all 840 words of his list in a monologue. What does it mean when you start using a new vocabulary? Will this monologue be at all understandable to Ahilan's 'fellow immigrants'?
• Ahilan Ratnamohan is a theatre maker who works with unconventional performers and forms to create interdisciplinary pieces. He draws inspiration from sports, film and language acquisition processes. He has recently been part of the Kaaitheater programme with a series of Klapping sessions, the Globe Aroma production Le Maillot - One Size Fits All, and the kick-off of the debate series The Wounds Of Multilingualism, together with Sulaiman Addonia and Passa Porta.
