Wie heeft mijn vader vermoord

theatre
11—12.02.2022

The young writer Édouard Louis is the greatest literary sensation in France since Michel Houellebecq. With his work, he stimulates discussions on class differences, racism and homophobia. This passionate and committed author does not shy away from speaking out politically. Not only did he demonstrate his support for the yellow vests movement, he also took up arms against the French president Macron: 'My book resists who you are and what you do.'

Ivo van Hove adapted his novel Who killed my father into a monologue, especially for Hans Kesting. The gripping story paints a merciless and poignant portrait of a father who at fifty is a physical and mental wreck from working in the heavy industry of northern France. A furious indictment of the political elite and a son's expression of love to his father at the same time. Édouard Louis also writes about how, as a young gay man, he was damned to be an outcast by his own working-class family. Switching between different perspectives and emotions, Kesting performs this brutal, brilliant text that does not leave its audience unmoved.

• Ivo van Hove is the director and managing director of Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, and no stranger to Kaaitheater. He has already been to our screens with The Diary of One Who Disappeared and The Other Voice. He also presented Maria Stuart, Na de repetitie/Persona and Angels in America. Almost all of these productions feature Hans Kesting — one of the actors on whom ITA relies, and who has received several awards for his roles. He has already given two very strong Mozart productions at La Monnaie: Idomeneo and La Clemenza di Tito.

Please be adviced: This performance contains scènes with domestic violence.
