To give voice to

video
02—07.03.2020

To give voice to is an action from buren's performance Blue Skies Forever and part of a research on the female voice. 70% of women speak with a higher pitch than their normal range. The pitch is connected to attractiveness, empathy, innocence, femininity and authority. Female voices who had a cultural impact are for example Margaret Thatcher, who had to lower her voice to get a certain sérieux and authority, Paris Hilton who used her baby voice as a marketing trick, the Kardashians rumored to have a major influence on the vocal fry of American teens. Even Jacky Kennedy changed her voice to a more sultry Marilyn Monroe voice after alleged betrayals of her husband.

In Greek mythology sirens were dangerous creatures who lured nearby sailors with their captivating singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Nowadays the siren is most known as a loud noise-making device. In this video the voice is depending on the bounce of a purple ball. The sound is transformed from an enchanting sound to an excruciating alarm. To give voice to reflects upon the idea of a siren (becoming a siren) through the character of a female police officer.
