Untitled Ceremony #05
The French artist Béatrice Balcou has been working on a series called Untitled Ceremonies since 2013. In response to our fast-paced world, the ceremonies introduce a muted spotlight on art. By slowly revealing, looking at and contextualising one single artwork, the artist invites us to take our time. The ceremonies are a reference to the Japanese tea ceremony ‘chanoyu’.
For her fifth ceremony she focuses on a work from Don Verboven’s collection. Verboven specialises in Medieval Art but exhibits work from all periods.
• Béatrice Balcou studied visual arts in Paris and dance in Montpellier (ex.e.r.ce) with Mathilde Monnier and Xavier Le Roy. Her work was shown in Museum M at Playground, in Casino Luxembourg, FRAC Franche-Comté and Palais de Tokyo, amongst others.
