UCL NightShop #1 - Before the War
Before the conflict
In 2014 the Lebanese-Canadian writer, actor and director Wajdi Mouawad (1968), who is also a much appreciated guest at the Avignon Festival, is the artist-in-residence at the UCL. He is the first guest and host of the three NightShops that the UCL is organising at the Kaaitheater this season. These NightShops are a setting for encounters and debates on the topic of ‘conflict’.
The first explores the history leading up to conflicts: how do they arise, how are they fuelled, how do they reach the point of eruption? Wajdi Mouawad will be engaging in an open dialogue with Yvan Mayeur, Mayor of the city of Brussels, and Lukas Pairon (Music Fund) on the subject “Before the war”. Behind the counter, Béatrice Delvaux, chief editorial writer for the newspaper Le Soir, will eavesdrop on this unprecedented encounter. On the fringes of the night and the edge of the city, this is a moment not to be missed!
The following NightShops will be in February (topic: ‘during the conflict’) and May (‘after the conflict’).
