Manufacturing Comes To Town
The talk will emphasise the importance of industry and manufacturing for the city, both in history and in present time. The experience of Mark Brearley as an advisor of the Mayor of London has strengthened his belief that making and the city are inseparable. Metropolitan regions can gain greatly from an economy that has strong local production and employment. Rather than pushing the industry further away from the city into the suburbanised periphery it should be encouraged in, made integral to the fabric, allowed to be extrovert, connected to shared daily life, nurtured and celebrated.
