Let's talk about Turkey!
A debate on Islam and feminism in Turkey
Now that more and more practising Muslims are coming to power in Turkey, the feminist movement finds itself on the horns of a dilemma. Is the tension between tradition and modernisation in East and West Istanbul illustrative of what is happening in gender issues? This is the topic of a debate between Bernard Bouwman, journalist, correspondent in Turkey, and author of Tussen God en Atatürk, Ece Temelkuran, author, journalist and political commentator, Meryem Ilyada Atlas, columnist; editor of the Turkish equivalent of The New York Times, Zeyno Pekünlü (artist) and Ilyas Odman, choreographer and dancer. Journalist Sara Van Boxstael will be the moderator. After the debate, Ilyas Odman will perform Happy Happy Together.
