How to survive in a city

performance
17—19.09.2010

Street food

Can you pick up food on the street? What can you find in Brussels ‘natural’ spots? On the walk entitled How to survive in a city, we comb the canal area thoroughly in search of anything edible: gingko, shoe soles, violets, pigeon, bark, fungi, grains, etc. Irma Firma provides instructions about how to survive in a tasty and nutritional way in a metropolis. The ingredients picked during the walk can be tasted immediately.

The artistic organisation Irma Firma was set up by the artist Ann Van de Vyvere in 2004. It is based in Brussels and develops projects with a social relevance: Van de Vyvere does not believe in creating new spaces and ideas, but in redefining them by casting reality and everyday things in a new light. Its existing projects include performances in public spaces, exhibitions, plays, film projects, publications, talks and workshops in schools, cultural centres, universities and arts academies. Van de Vyvere is the driving force behind the organisation and it is she who initiates all the projects; at a later stage she also involves artists, specialists, academics, philosophers, etc., and an audience.
