GIANT CITY

dance
28—29.11.2009

Bodies in giant cities

Since 2002, Danish choreographer and dancer Mette Ingvartsen has written a number of delightful productions, including 50/50, to come, Why We Love Action and IT’S IN THE AIR. All were presented at the Kaaitheater.

GIANT CITY premiered at Graz in October 2009. While in Evaporated Landscapes (presented in the Kaaistudio's on November 27th) Ingvartsen shows mobile landscapes in which there is no sign of human presence, in Giant City it is the reverse: the human bodies depict or evoke a landscape. It is a ‘science-fiction choreography’ for eight dancers who are seeking a way of integrating into their body language the changes life forces them to make. They examine what happens to their bodies as they move. What physical memories can they fall back on? The setting in which they move is that of metropolitan space: where nothing is fixed, and everything is in motion in a constant metamorphosis.
