European Saxophone Ensemble
The European Saxophone Ensemble (ESE) is brand-new. It is made up of twelve young musicians from various countries in Europe. The number of musicians playing reflects all types of saxophones (sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass).
The aim of the ensemble is to break down the borders separating various musical styles: classical, improvisation, avant-jazz and traditional music go hand in hand here. Five European composers have composed new work for ESE: Pascal Zavaro (F), Dan Dediu (ROM), Maciej Malecki (PL), Cezariusz Gadzina (PL) and Luc Mishalle (B).
The artistic director of ESE, Cezariusz Gadzina, has made a name for himself in classical music, jazz and contemporary music. He studied in Warsaw, at the Lemmens Institute of Music in Leuven and the Conservatory in Brussels. He has also performed together with the La Monnaie orchestra, Ictus and BL!NDMAN.
The ESE is based in Brussels and was awarded the title of Cultural Ambassador of the European Union earlier this year.
