showtitle #63 BLACK MARK

dance
31.01—02.02.2008

Reinvent

After a process of reducing choreography to its bare essence, Marc Vanrunxt takes a new step in the reinvention of his craft. This time he goes for heterogeneity: how can choreography function when it has been stripped of its core, when it searches for its reflection in a landscape of elements which have their origins elsewhere.

showtitle #63 BLACK MARK is a performance without a singular starting point, a process in which different histories meet. Vanrunxt invited several artists with whom he has collaborated in the past to make a contribution to his piece: author and theatre maker Bart Meuleman and artists Robert Cash, Sophie Nys, Danai Anesiadou and Koenraad Dedobbeleer. There are no rules: the form, the size, the length and the medium of these contributions have not been defined. So there will always be a surprise attached to the works that will be inserted into the process.

The choreography itself has a heterogeneous origin too: Vanrunxt develops a new stage in his ongoing collaboration with Marie De Corte, Etienne Guilloteau and Eva Kamala Rodenburg, bringing these dancers for the first time together in the same work.

The scene is the place where forms and movements meet, where they initiate temporary and unexpected relationships before they impassively continue their own pathway. What binds these artistic processes is a fundamental curiosity and their almost accidental presence at the same place and the same time. The spectator will be the epicentre of this dismantled Gesamtkunstwerk.
