Das wohltemperierte Klavier

music
22—29.10.2006

Bach’s Wohltemperiertes Klavier in two versions

The pianist Alain Franco will perform a two concerts of Bach’s Das Wohltemperiertes Klavier.

Franco: ‘Playing a concert also involves a dramaturgical question. It does not have so much to do with authenticity or performance, as with reading the music. I see a score as an intersection on the big plasma screen of history. If you press on a particular spot it causes a tension that sets off other intersections. This is why I play Das Wohltemperierte Klavier twice, in two versions, in an attempt to let the material dialogue with itself. Here I think for example of Velasquez’ Las Meninas, or on the turns of the camera in Godard’s Le Mépris, or even of Pessoa’s use of heteronyms. The 48 preludes and fugues of Das Wohltemperierte Klavier are like short stories of which I put forward two edited versions.’

Alain Franco conducted Ictus, Champ d’Action and other ensembles, was a music dramaturge at Rosas, worked as a pianist in zien en zien by Tg Stan, etc.

Attention !
Das Wohltemperierte Klavier has a duration of 5 hours. We have therefore split the concert in three parts. The first begins at 5 pm, the second at 7 pm and the third at 8.10 pm. There is a 30 minutes interval between part 1 and part 2, and a 20 minutes interval between part 2 and 3.
