Veronique Doisneau / Giszelle

dance
09—10.12.2005

In this double bill, the choreographers Jérôme Bel, Eszter Salamon and Xavier Le Roy provide an insight into the individual behind the classical ballerina. The pieces examine the context of the dancer in classical ballet and the person behind the iconic image.

The solo Véronique Doisneau is a tribute to the ‘corps de ballet’ dancers, those non-prominent performers who never become ‘etoiles’. The piece is performed by Véronique Doisneau, a dancer with the Paris Opera. Jérôme Bel, that ethnologist of gesture, gathers the person, the performer and her art into one single object of study. He gives us access to the dancers’ thoughts.

In Giszelle, Eszter Salamon and Xavier Le Roy question the body and its movements. The solo for the dancer Eszter Salamon marks a new step in the research into the reshaping of the body and gives the spectator the oportunity to comprehend the subtlety of dance. Giszelle masters the movements that mark the Western body.
