Escape Act
Heeft stem een gender? Of kunnen we lichamen waarnemen zonder er gender of – kortom een waarde – aan toe te kennen? Alexandra Bachzetsis nodigt in Escape Act Anne Pajunen, Sotiris Vasiliou, Jia-Yu Corti, Tamar Kisch, Owen Ridley-DeMonick, Gus Solomons, Philippe Beloul en Johanna Willig-Rosenstein uit om de mechanismen van het verlangen te onderzoeken. Hiervoor werken ze met het gedicht Love is a drone van filosoof, activist and dramaturg Paul B. Preciado. Zowel gebruik makend van drag, vogueing, striptease, YouTube-tutorials als het triadisch ballet van Oskar Schlemmer, proberen zeven lichamen en nog veel meer objecten nieuwe constellaties uit, als surrealistische ready-mades. Binnen de dominante logica van het verlangen zijn lichamen man of vrouw, echt of fake, kennen ze succes of mislukking, en doen objecten dienst als vervangbare protheses. Kunnen we die logica omgooien? Met veel ironie toont de voorstelling genderidentiteiten op een hyper-stereotiepe manier, om ze vervolgens weer te ontmantelen. Wat Escape act aantoont, is dat tekens niet te vertrouwen zijn.
• Alexandra Bachzetsis is choreograaf en beeldend kunstenaar. In haar multidisciplinaire oeuvre staat de constructie van beeld en lichaam in mainstream populaire cultuur centraal. Haar werk staat in theaterzalen, musea en op kunstbiënnales. In 2010 toonde ze in de Kaaistudio’s Dream Season tijdens de eerste WoWmen.
