"Bless the Sound that Saved a Witch like me"
I want to share a scream with you.
I want to share a sound without fences.
I want to share this loudness and the silence that comes within.
I want to offer you a journey without directions, a journey into the unknown.
I want to offer you no certainty or no set conclusion.
I wanna share a breath, for I exist - for we exist.
Like the swallow that flew to our ancestors to a chain of time, that is the only gesture lost in time and space.
Of het nu met woede, plezier, pijn of stilte is, de schreeuw blijft een krachtige en heel intieme daad. Het lokt directe empathie uit, wat ook een van onze meest gedeelde en instinctieve emoties is. Het is een barst in tijd en ruimte.
Samen met performer Sati Veyrunes en componist Lucia Ross onderzoekt Benjamin Kahn op welke manieren het gevoel van urgentie geuit kan worden. Schreeuwen is bijzonder slecht gedocumenteerd in de geschiedenis van filosofie en sociale wetenschappen. Het wordt meestal gelijkgesteld aan woede, hysterie en chaos en wordt gecensureerd in de taal die we gebruiken.
Deze solo is een poging om deze radicale uitdrukking opnieuw toe te eigenen en dit uiterst rauwe en onthutsende materiaal te verwoorden en te temmen. De reis is fysiek, sonorisch en wil deze vitale impuls opnieuw toegankelijk maken voor iedereen.
"Bless the Sound that Saved a Witch like me" is het tweede deel van een trilogie van portretten, na "Sorry, But I Feel Slightly Disidentified...", een solo voor Cherish Menzo en de solo The Blue Hour voor Théo Acremanne.
• Benjamin Kahn is danser en choreograaf. Hij studeerde aan de universiteit van Aix en Provence, het conservatorium van Rennes en aan het Brusselse ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque). Na zijn studies werkte hij samen met choreografen als Philippe Saire, Benjamin Vandewalle, Nicole Beutler, Ben J. Riepe, Frédéric Flamand, Maud Le Pladec, Eglė Budvytytė en Alessandro Sciarroni.
