Twee uitzonderlijke carrières
Van Serge Diaghilev tot Marie Rambert, van Rudolf Laban tot Martha Graham, van Merce Cunningham tot Yvonne Rainer, van John Cage tot Morton Feldman, van Robert Rauschenberg tot Andy Warhol, van Brian de Palma tot Woody Allen en van King Lear tot Othello: zestig jaar lang waren de artistieke carrières van Valda Setterfield en Gus Solomons Jr. gelieerd aan de meest prominente artiesten en artistieke ontwikkelingen.
Eszter Salamon en haar artistieke partner Christophe Wavelet reisden naar New York om er de nu 82-jarige Setterfield en 76-jarige Solomons Jr. uitvoerig te interviewen over hun uitzonderlijke carrières. Ze overtuigde hen om zelf op de scène te staan in MONUMENT 0.1: Valda & Gus. De voorstelling situeert zich op de grens van fictie en geschiedenis. Met lichamen, woorden en gebaren kneden ze een compositie waarin het voortschrijden van de tijd en uit herinneringen opgediepte verhalen zich verstrengelen. Haast onbeschaamd tarten Valda en Gus de verwachtingen die bij hun hoge leeftijd horen.
• Vorig seizoen maakte Eszter Salamon nog grote indruk met MONUMENT 0: haunted by wars (1913-2013). Monument 0.1: Valda & Gus is het tweede deel in deze reeks over de relatie tussen dans en geschiedenis.
