Nu ben ik Medea
In this personal performance, Khadija El Kharraz Alami blends perspectives from Euripides’ Medea with her own story about growing up between two worlds – and about the clash of forces within the self. Alami explains how she was formed by the richness of both the Western and the Moroccan world: the many traditions, differences in culture, multilingualism, being a believer or not, music, food, freedom… Until these two worlds collide: she stands in between and tries with all her might to hold them together. She thus continues to grow up, no longer with, but between two worlds.
• Khadija El Kharraz Alami won the KBC Young Theatre Prize for Nu ben ik Medea at Theater Aan Zee. The jury described her as a ‘remarkable and inexorable theatre personality’.
