Long Summer Dream

theatre
film
12—14.06.2024

From an autobiographical point of view, Pedro Sousa Loureiro goes on a queer journey of discovery. He reflects on his own queer experiences, such as his coming-out, in relation to family and the society he grew up in. Thanks to pop culture heroes - think Madonna or The Spice Girls - Loureiro felt protected in his own queer search.

He translates these experiences into re-enactments on stage. As a visitor, you first step between a number of video installations in which queer bodies are given visibility. Then you slowly enter a film set, in which the performers re-enact a number of scenes from Loureiro's personal life. Between the re-enactments, the live cameras and the video installations, a new, imaginary dimension emerges. In it lives the freedom and imagination needed to deconstruct stereotypes about femininity and masculinity.

At the same time, Loureiro realises that these experiences are not universal. He travelled to different social and cultural contexts, e.g. Armenia, for preliminary research, to address other perspectives. Questions about the relationship between our ego and personal growth, hierarchic power relations or personal struggles or self-acceptance thus suddenly appear in a completely different light.

Pedro Sousa Loureira aka Feathering (°Coimbra, 1989) is currently studying the Master in Theatre Directing at the RITCS in Brussels with a training scholarship in Arts Abroad from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Pedro Sousa Loureiro has worked with Maria João Rocha, Joris Lacoste, Lisbeth Gritter, Jorge Silva Melo, Ricardo Neves-Neves and Sofia Ângelo, among others, and won the New Awards 2016 in the Theatre category with OS PATO BRAVO (2014-2023), a collaboration with Joana Cotrim. Sousa Loureira's other work includes BEAUTIFUL HOUSE (2017) and two radio shows, including SHOT DE LIBERDADE (2020).

Andreia Morado (° Coimbra, 1983) is a transdisciplinary artist: dancer, choreographer, musician, performer and activist. They hold a degree in Artistic Studies from the University of Coimbra, and bachelor's degrees in Sociology, Anthropology and International Relations. In 2015, they started the collective Movimento Sem Prega, which develops experimental research in performance and pedagogy, where spaces of performative sociability come to life to make other forms of life known. Their work has been shown at ISELP, CAE - Center for Arts and Entertainment and Casinho da Figueira, among others.

Lien Jansen (°Turnhout, 1988 and living in Brussels) Lien is active in the performing arts as a performer, dancer and social worker. She has a degree in social work and development cooperation and was lured to the friction between social work and artistic experimentation. In 2018, she started her own artistic track as a player in Transfocollect where she has also been active as a facilitator on the floor of new participants since 2024. She is driven by the playful exploration of her own artistic language, as well as that of her fellow human beings. Lien has performed at Transfocollect, Rafah, Majoretteketet and Zinneke, among others, both in theatres and in public spaces.
