When TV series determine the stories of the city

Along with Passa Porta, we have invited Négar Djavadi for an author conversation. Her first novel, Désorientale, received several awards and was translated into ten languages. Her second book is an urban novel told from multiple perspectives. In Arène, Djavadi, who is also a screenwriter, reflects on the rhythm and the storylines of TV series, which determine our perspective on fiction and dominate our imaginations. She sketches a virtuoso portrait of a multicultural city in which various identities intersect.

• Négar Djavadi is a novelist, screenwriter and director. She was born into a family of Iranian intellectuals who were opposed to the regimes of the Shah and Ayatollah Khomeini. When she was eleven, she and her mother and sister crossed the mountains of Kurdistan on horseback and eventually made their way to France. She studied at the INSAS and lived in Brussels for six years.
