Ghosts of the past
In the same week where you can witness Michiel Vandevelde’s Goldberg Variations and Dances of Death at Kaaitheater, he looks back at nine years of performance making and choreographing by directing a video as an exhibition. Shot in single takes with a drone, you roam through the empty building of PACT Zollverein. Each room holds its own ‘ghosts of the past’ on which the next room builds further. You encounter dancers, dances, sounds, and texts. Traveling through fragments of Michiel’s performances the underlying threads and questions of his work are unraveled. From Love Songs (veldeke) (2012) till Dances of Death (2021). Ghosts of the past is a travel through time, navigating through a personal history as well as evoking histories of dance.
