Belgian Poetry Slam Championship 2017
Our country’s eleven best slammers take the stage! During a 3-minute poetry slam, each poet tries to convince a team of professional juries. They will also try to win you, the audience, over with their thrilling texts and their great performances. A slam performance can both be intimate and personal as a critique of society. Either way, prepare to be struck by their words. Meanwhile, a DJ is playing to soothe the mood. As a spectator, you’ll also be able to vote for your favorite slammer.
So please come and join us and root for your favorite performer ! This year’s winner will follow in Giovanni Centola’s footsteps. He won the Belgian Championship last year. This year’s winner will also represent our country during the European Championship and the World Championship.
On the 28th of October, eleven of Belgium’s finest slam poets are sent into a battle of words at the Kaaitheater in Brussels. The event starts at 7 pm and is totallyfree. You don’t have to book in advance, so go ahead, take a seat and enjoy the show. A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and is often referred to as a boxing match with words. Each slammer has its own trade mark: ranging from self-reflective poetry to social criticism.
We organized multiple qualifying rounds throughout the whole country. The winners of each round were qualified for the Belgian Championship Poetry Slam 2017. These are the 11 finalists: Giovanni Baudonck (Pianofabriek), Sven De Swerts (You On Stage), Anke Somers (Uwoorden), Leïla (Prix Paroles Urbaines), Serial D’Rimeur (enV.I.E.S.), Kevin Amse (Wolven van La Mancha), Lisette Ma Neza (You On Stage), Teddy Bair (De Stroate), Nestor (Prix Paroles Urbaines), Le Chauve sourit (GoSlam Collectif) and Najib Abderrahim (La Zone).
During the finale, a professional jury (including Slongs Dievanongs and actress Martha Canga Antonio) gives scores and evaluates the performer. But you also get to vote! Come and root for your favourite slammer.
• It’s Creatief Schrijven’s 6th edition of the Belgian Championship Poetry Slam 2017. For this occasion, we brought together several slammers who participated throughout the years and recorded a vinyl with them. You can buy the vinyl at the night of the Championship or on the website creatiefschrijven.be.
