Young Cities: From Crisis To Opportunity

talk
17.09.2014

The Canal Area in Brussels is one of the most densely populated urban areas in Western Europe, and is changing all the time. Many newcomers settle in these post-industrial districts looking for a stepping-stone to a better future. However, the young population faces many challenges: poor living standards and housing, high unemployment and a lack of urban facilities. Yet these young people are the basis for tomorrow's society. What urban plan could help ensure a better future for them?

Introduction by Patrick Deboosere (sociologist and demographer, VUB, Brussel)
Lectures by Jeanne Van Heeswijck (artist, Rotterdam) - 'Jeanneworks', Rafaël Magrou, (architect, curator Playgrounds, Lieu Unique, Nantes) - 'Playgrounds Nantes' and Sihame El Kaouakibi (Let's go Urban!, Antwerpen)
