MARVELOUS

performance
18.06.2015

Bryan Campbell is an American artist and performer currently based is Paris. He studied Fine Arts in Dance at the Tisch School of the Arts (New York) and graduated from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). With MARVELOUS he developed both a performance and a magazine. In the performance, Bryan Campbell, editor-in-chief of MARVELOUS, gives a live reading of the magazine. The experience of flipping through its pages is recreated in the collective theatre space. As the performed composition corresponds to the pages of the magazine projected onto a screen in sequence, the structure of the print object influences the rhythm and dramaturgy of the performance. Through a construction of text, voice, and body states, the editor-in-chief explores how one positions him or herself with regard to printed material, dealing in questions of expertise, economic access, and psychologies of persuasion and seduction.
